The Girondins de Bordeaux are trying to get their heads above water after another administrative relegation. Now in National 2, the scapular club can no longer live with the same lifestyle as before.
A few months ago, the Girondins de Bordeaux learned of their descent into National 2 from Ligue 2. The fault lies in the more than questionable management of the club by Gérard Lopez. A management which forced the scapular club to file for bankruptcy and therefore start again from the amateur level. A disaster for the Bordeaux club, which now has a lot of problems to manage. In particular, the question of the stadium, the Matmut Atlantique, was raised. The same goes for the Château du Haillan and its surroundings, which had been made available to the club by the city when the Girondins were playing in the professional world. Because more than three quarters of the Bordeaux club's employees are affected by a social plan put in place in October. This considerable reduction in numbers and the change in status renders the temporary occupancy agreement given to the Bordeaux club by the town hall for Haillan obsolete.
New occupants at Haillan
In the past, Bordeaux could occupy the estate for a rent of 16,000 euros per month. A sum now far too high for the club. The agreement set in the past to occupy the Château du Haillan and its surroundings is therefore being renegotiated. For the moment, the management of amateur football infrastructure in the Haillan plain is taken care of by the town hall. The professional space, which includes a long administrative lease for a symbolic euro until 2060, is still available to the scapular club. The problem lies in the use of the castle and its surroundings. And it must be settled at the end of November. To make things easier, Bordeaux will be obliged to share premises. As recalled in Figaro by Mathieu Hazouard, adeputy mayor in charge of sportsBordeaux only has 10 employees left and finds itself counting all the euros spent. Still according to the media, the city's infrastructure is now rented for 80 euros per hour for each Girondins training session. Times have changed in Bordeaux and the Town Hall wants to have the right balance to help the club without the expenses being too high for the city.
