Opposed to Liberia on the occasion of the sixth and final day of the CAN 2025 qualifiers, Algeria relied on Aïssa Mandi, scorer (5-1) who became the most capped player in its history.

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers are about to reach their conclusion with their sixth day. Group E opened the ball this Sunday, even if the stakes were limited. Algeria, already qualified and assured of being first in its group, hosted Liberia at the Hocine Aït Ahmed Stadium in Tizi Ouzou. Surprised at the start of the match, she could rely on Aïssa Mandi, starting on the right side of a three-way defense, who scored the equalizing goal (20'). What followed, while the domination of the Fennecs was clear, was a real offensive festival with four new goals scored. Riyad Mahrez (29′), Baghdad Bounedjah (64′), Amine Gouiri (74′) and Mohamed Amoura (90+5′) shook the nets in turn for a logical success (5-1).

Algeria, which will try to return to the final victory in Morocco during the CAN 2025, achieved an almost faultless performance during its qualifying campaign. Only a draw, conceded during the month of November against Equatorial Guinea (0-0), made it lose two units. With sixteen units, Vladimir Petkovic's men are easily ahead of their opponents: Equatorial Guinea (8 pts), Togo (5 pts) and Liberia (4 pts).

In addition to her achievement, the sixth of her international career, Aïssa Mandi (33) experienced her 103rd selection under the colors of Algeria this Sunday. This total makes him the most capped player in the history of the Algerian selection, ahead of Islam Slimani (102). He began his shared history with the Fennecs on March 5, 2014, when he was 22 years old. Ten years later, with the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in the trophy cabinet, the versatile central defender is further inscribing his name in the history of his country.
