ASSE coach for over two years, Claude Puel is now away from the field. But the technician retains a deep attachment to the Saint-Etienne club. The coach still monitors the performance of his team, led by new management. During an interview, he spoke about the latest training developments and agreed to look back on his experience.
For two years (October 2019-December 2021), Claude Puel led ASSE before being thanked by the former management (Roland Romeyer-Bernard Caïazzo). Despite this end of the journey, the technician has fond memories of his visit, particularly because of the supporters.
Puel takes stock of his visit
« My visit was well-connected with the supporters and with the leaders. Everyone was aware of the club's situation and agreed on the project: training young people to save the club and aiming to maintain it at the end of the season. » said Puel has People-Green.
“There was some friction”
During his interview, he acknowledged some tensions with his management. “ The Saint-Étienne supporters are extraordinary. If the club manages to survive this year, it will be largely thanks to them, as they support the team tirelessly. They are one with the team. Towards the end of my tenure there was some friction, but that does not negate the positive impact they have had and the unique energy they bring to the club. let go Puel.
