MHSC: Laurent Nicollin sows doubt about his future

Laurent Nicollin questions his future at the MHSC while the new stadium project marks a crucial turning point.

Since 2017, Laurent Nicollin has managed , succeeding his father Louis Nicollin. Under his presidency, the club continued its development, but questions now hover over his future at the head of the institution. In a recent interview with Free Middaythe president of the MHSC spoke of his uncertainties.

An ambitious project for a new chapter

The MHSC is preparing to take a major step forward with the construction of a new stadium. The latter is supposed to embody a renewal for the club. Laurent Nicollin underlines the importance of this project in the modernization and sustainability of the club:
With a new stadium, it will be necessary to create a story, an identity, a link. But there is no reason why it should not happen naturally, like or did it.”

Doubts about his continuity as president

However, Laurent Nicollin hinted that he might not be part of this new phase of the club:
Will I be in this new story? Maybe not, I don't know.
These words, tinged with uncertainty, suggest the possibility of a departure or a change of direction in the years to come. At 51, Nicollin seems to be considering a transition which could coincide with the end of the Stade de la Mosson era.

A legacy to preserve

Under the leadership of the Nicollin family, Montpellier has experienced great moments. One of these moments is the historic title of champion of in 2012. His possible departure could mark a significant turning point for the MHSC.

Despite these uncertainties, Nicollin insists on his desire to guarantee a harmonious transition:
We will do everything to ensure that the handover with a new stadium goes as smoothly as possible, with a club still in Ligue 1, proud of its results and its supporters..”
