Are pesticides dangerous for health a thing of the past according to the Minister of Ecological Transition and Risk Prevention, Agnès Pannier-Runacher? A statement that we have verified.
“Phytosanitary products which are today classified as dangerous – from category 1 – we have reduced them by more than 98% in our country”declared the minister on France Inter on November 5, 2024. In the context of the broadcast of November 5, the minister was referring to so-called CMR phytosanitary products. These products have carcinogenic, mutagenic or reproductive toxicity effects. According to European regulations, CMR category 1 products correspond to proven or presumed CMR effects. For comparison, category 2 corresponds to effects that are only suspected.
Indeed, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, the number of products belonging to category 1 has fallen drastically since 2015. However, some researchers believe that this is not enough and that the pesticides remaining on the market are not not safe for health.
