Trent Alexander-Arnold's future is uncertain. Will the England international stay at Liverpool or join Real Madrid? Steve McManaman, who has worn the colors of both clubs, gives his informed opinion.
At the end of his contract with Liverpool next June, Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to see his name associated with Real Madrid. The English right-back, trained with the Reds, has not yet clarified his future, but a free departure to the White House seems to be a serious option if he does not extend his contract with the Mersey club.
Steve McManaman, former LFC and Real player, was keen to provide some advice to his young compatriot. The one who twice lifted the big-eared cup with the Madrid club in 2000 and 2002 invited Alexander-Arnold to make a decision based on his personal aspirations.
“I think Liverpool want him to stay but…”
“Would I encourage him? I had a wonderful time”he confided on TNT Sports before Liverpool's victory against Aston Villa (2-0) this Saturday in the Premier League. “I think if you talk to anyone else, Michael Owen was only there for a year, he had a good time but he came back. Personally, I don't know Trent's situation. I think Liverpool want him to stay but it's entirely a personal thing, isn't it? »
“Do Real Madrid want it? I think every club in the world would want him, someone of his caliber for free… I think that goes without saying. But he might want to stay here – his family is here – or he might think 'You know what, I've been here 20 years as a man and a child, I'm going to try something new'. Because once he stays, if he stays and signs a five or six year contract here, he will be here for the future, right, he will be here for life.”declared the ex-attacking midfielder.
