Ligue 1, 11th day
Stade Vélodrome
OM-Auxerre 1-3
Goals: Greenwood (65th on penalty) for OM; Sinayoko (10th), Perrin (43rd), Traoré (45th) for Auxerre
Two weeks after PSG, OM again conceded three goals at the Vélodrome. The 3-1 defeat suffered here against Auxerre was not expected and hurts very badly in the race for the podium.
The all-conquering OM at the start of the season is nothing more than a distant memory. The 2-1 victory at Nantes last Sunday was forgotten in just 45 minutes. Indeed, the Marseillais experienced a nightmarish first half against Auxerre. Messy and sterile in attack, the Phocaeans were punished by clinical Auxerre. Following a blunder from Brassier, Sinayoko came to cool down the entry Vélodrome. OM really cracked in the last minutes before the break. Perrin made it 2-0 after a nice deep call from Sinayoko. Then, Traoré had fun in the area and slipped the ball between Rulli's legs.
De Zerbi's coaching with the entry of Wahi did not improve the score much. Marseille clearly dominated but only a generous penalty came to soften the score. Akpa took the ball in the chest and a little in the arm but the referee and the VAR were intransigent. Greenwood scored but it was insufficient. Wahi missed a face to face with Léon and that was almost all. 3-1, Auxerre takes provisional 6th place while OM lets PSG slip away and worries.
