Arriving this summer from Tottenham, Pierre-Emile Hojberg did not take much time to adapt to the Marseille collective. Quickly established by his coach Roberto de Zerbi, the Danish international established himself as the new boss of his team. Thanks to his leadership qualities, he has already inherited the captain's armband against Toulouse, a strong decision on the part of the Italian technician who could then have entrusted it to Valentin Rongier or Leaonardo Balerdi. A born leader, he didn't need much help to become an executive on this team.
“Break everything in the locker room, I don’t know if that would have helped”
“If a leader doesn't talk and shows the way through behavior, that's fine with me too. I need to feel the temperature of the match, and for that, sometimes you have to talk a little (he smiles). You have to know where the referee is, how he feels, if he is close to sending me to the locker room or not. I can joke with the referee sometimes: 'Look, you're still allowed to make a mistake !'”, he explains in an interview with the Team. He then returns to the shock against Paris Saint-Germain and what happened at half-time while his team were trailing 3-0 at home: “Three to zero at halftime, there's not much to say. Breaking everything in the locker room, I don't know if that would have helped much, the result had already broken everything. Sometimes you also regret saying things directly because you are emotionally affected. The most important thing, in fact, is the reaction after such a match: how people behave, train in the following week. I appreciated the way everyone got back up. I feel that the team is better in ten days, it's strange to say maybe but I know it“. A strong speech which says a lot about the leadership qualities as well as the experience of the Dane, essential to the proper functioning of OM this year.
