Faced with the controversy generated by the tifo deployed at the Parc des Princes in support of Palestine, the Parisian ultras broke their silence.
The Collectif Ultras Paris (CUP) has decided to clarify things. After deploying a huge tifo in support of Palestine (with messages: “Free Palestine” and “War on the ground but peace in the world”), Wednesday evening at the Parc des Princes on the sidelines of the kick-off of the Champions League match between PSG and Atlético Madrid, the Parisian ultras spoke on social networks to provide details in the face of the controversy.
“Following the various controversies concerning the entertainment in the stands last night, some clarifications from us are necessary. In no case was this tifo intended to convey a message of hatred. On the contrary, the message that accompanied it is explicit and is a call for peace between peoples », indicated the CUP in a press release published on X (formerly Twitter).
UEFA will not sanction
And to add: “In no case did we need the help or the kindness of our club for the preparation or deployment. It was carried out entirely in a gymnasium in the Paris suburbs. This sensitive subject pushed us to make our arrangements in advance so as not to harm our club. »
The deployment of this tifo in support of Palestine, the president of the French Football Federation, Philippe Diallo, and the general director of PSG, Victoriano Melero, were summoned by the Ministry of the Interior on Friday at 10 a.m. For its part, UEFA decided not to sanction the capital club, considering that “ the banner displayed cannot be considered provocative or insulting in this specific case. »
