The very poor results of FC Nantes for several weeks have weakened Antoine Kombouaré, whose future at the head of the Canaries is increasingly undecided
Antoine Kombouaré has so far benefited from significant support from Waldemar Kita because it must be said, it is rare that a coach has lasted so long at Nantes in recent years. In office from 2021 to 2023, the Kanak coach returned to Loire-Atlantique in 2024, with success for the moment. But the crisis that FC Nantes is going through, which has not won since the end of August, is worrying and Waldemar Kita could have an old reflex, that of firing his coach. In the event of Antoine Kombouaré's departure, the names of Philippe Montanier, Patrick Vieira and Zoumana Camara have been mentioned in recent hours.
But according to information from Live Foota fourth candidate should be taken seriously to take over from the former Paris Saint-Germain coach. This is Stéphane Ziani, current coach of the FC Nantes reserve and man “much appreciated” internally, particularly within the Kita family. Considered a “darling” from Waldemar, he could have his chance at the highest level and that is in any case what the current president of the Canaries would like. For the moment, this possible promotion of Stéphane Ziani is however hampered by an implacable economic reality.
Kombouaré is expensive to fire
With 18 months of contract and a salary of around 100,000 euros per month, Antoine Kombouaré is expensive and his dismissal would hurt the finances of FC Nantes. This is why the Nantes coach should have at least one more chance to save his skin, this Saturday at 7 p.m. against Lens at Bollaert. In the event of a defeat, however, Waldemar Kita could break down and take out the necessary compensation to fire his coach during the international break.
