Real Madrid welcomes AC Milan to the Santiago Bernabéu stadium this evening in a more than special match for Spanish-Moroccan Brahim Diaz.
Real Madrid is back on the field after a longer than expected break due to the climatic tragedy in the province of Valencia which did not make it possible to hold the La Liga match between Valencia and the Merengues last weekend. The Madrilenians face AC Milan at the Santiago Bernabéu this evening at 9 p.m. as part of the fourth day of the Champions League, a competition in which Real is in 12th place out of the 36 teams entered with a total of 6 points ( two victories and one defeat). This match is already decisive in the race for the first 8 places directly qualifying for the round of 16.
This evening, the duel will pit the two most successful teams in the history of the Champions League: Real Madrid with 15 crowns and AC Milan with 7 crowns. The last big-eared Cup won by the Milanese dates back to 2007 under the orders of a certain Carlo Ancelotti who managed AC Milan from 2001 to 2009.
Two clubs that Brahim Diaz also knows well for whom this match will have a particular flavor. Indeed, the latter experienced three great seasons with Milan (2020-2023) where he notably played 89 matches as a starter for a total of 18 goals and 16 assists. Brahim arrived on loan in Italy in September 2020 for a season from Real Madrid and the adventure continued as the performances of the young 25-year-old player were interesting. He even won the Scudetto in 2021 under Pioli. It is also for this reason that Real came to recover him in 2023 for the sum of 27 million euros.
Recovered from his muscle injury and back in the group, Brahim Diaz could play a few minutes of play against his former teammates like the Frenchman Théo Hernandez, also formerly of Real Madrid (2017-2019) with whom he shares a brotherly relationship. Furthermore, regarding his debut with Morocco (6 caps, 2 goals), Brahim Diaz affirmed that his dream is “to write history with the Moroccan national team” and thanked Morocco for “the warm welcome” which was reserved for him recently.
“I am very proud to wear the Moroccan national team jersey. I am grateful to Morocco and the entire African continent for all the love and warm welcome I have received,” he said in an interview in Madrid with the Moroccan agency MAP published this Monday. Brahim said he always had the feeling of being part of the “big family” of the Moroccan national team, where he debuted last March in a friendly match between Morocco and Angola.
“Thanks to the love and warm welcome of all the members of the team, I always had the impression of being part of this big family,” explains the Madrid native. The welcome to Oujda will remain “one of the most precious moments of my career”, concluded the Real Madrid striker.
