Nicolas Pépé (ex-LOSC): “I had an opportunity to return to Lille”

Back in the spotlight at Villarreal, where his performances are the subject of some praise, Nicolas Pépé recently revealed that he had made some contacts with LOSC this summer.

Author of a notable stint in between 2017 and 2019 (37 goals and 18 assists in 79 matches), Nicolas Pépé (29 years old) could have returned to these lands. At least that’s what he recently said in an interview with Free Foot : “This summer, it’s true that it was very complex. Afterwards, there were a lot of Spanish clubs (2-3) who were interested and talking with my agents like Sevilla and Las Palmas. I also had an opportunity to return to Lille. It tempted me. I thought about it because my family now lives in Lille, and so do I, so it was something that crossed my mind. But it was the discussion with the Villarreal coach that changed everythingexplains the Ivorian international. He showed me that he wanted and needed me. Feeling wanted is the most important thing and for me, that has been key. »

During the summer, at the end of July, Bruno Genesio said the opposite in the mixed zone, following a friendly victory over Celta Vigo: “We have not specifically identified his name (that of Nicolas Pépé, editor’s note). […] We must enlist players capable of bringing us something extra. The players who arrive must bring us something more, individually and collectively”had insisted the Lille technician just a few days before Nicolas Pépé signed up with Villarreal CF in Spain.

A regular member of the yellow submarine crew, the former LOSC resident has played eight games in La Liga since the start of the season, with a goal and an assist to his statistical record.
