In the last episode of the documentary dedicated to him and which was broadcast Monday evening on Spanish television, Luis Enrique returned to his non-celebration of PSG’s title of French champion, the evening of the 3-1 defeat at the Parc des Princes against Toulouse.
Entitled Xana, named after his granddaughter who tragically died in 2019 from an illness, the third episode of the documentary series dedicated to Luis Enrique was broadcast Monday evening on Movistar Plus+, a Spanish channel. And in this episode, Luis Enrique returns in particular to his non-celebration of PSG’s French champion title.
A title acquired on April 28, the day after a draw at Le Havre and after Monaco’s defeat against Lyon, which PSG celebrated in front of its home crowd on May 12, a few minutes after losing 3-1 to Toulouse. If Luis Enrique had celebrated the title with his staff at the end of April, as we can see in the documentary, he did not participate in the festivities at the Parc des Princes. He explained why in his documentary.
“It’s the title I least celebrated during my career”
“It was a dismal match in my opinion. I didn’t even celebrate the title. It’s strange, it’s the title that I celebrated the least during my career. I was so angry, I would have broken the podium that day. I don’t have a single photo with the trophy, not a single one. What do you want, I’m not perfect. I’m a competitor and for me that day was shit.”he confided.
Luis Enrique also explained that it was also complicated for him to celebrate this champion title without his daughter Xana, who used to accompany him on the pitch during the title celebrations in Barcelona: “I said to my wife: ‘I miss Xanita, today was Xanita’s day’”.
