On TV7, the economist Christophe Lepetitanswered the question of whether what was happening to the Girondins de Bordeaux had a chance of happening to other French football clubs and if, in a way, Bordeaux was the “show apartment” of what is going to happen at the French national level. “Indeed, I think that this is the symptom of a financial drift in professional football which has unfortunately been underway for many years. It is a deregulation of this economy, with absolutely total liberation. With economic models which are based on the one hand on TV rights and on the other hand on transfers, but also and above all with financing methods which are based very largely, and too largely, on debt, since it is this is killing the Girondins of Bordeaux. The debt is absolutely crazy, and there is an inability of the club to be able to meet its debts. This had already been the case when Gérard Lopez arrived, it is the case again now with this double demotion to arrive in National 2, and these clouds which unfortunately hover over the heads of the Girondins.
