Léo Pétrot (ASSE side) reacts to the term “Soldier” given to him by Dall’Oglio: “It’s true that it’s even more so when you’re from Saint Etienne and you know the value of this club and you also have a love of the jersey. So obviously, I characterize myself as a soldier, in quotes. In the state of mind, we must also generally all be irreproachable, particularly with what happened in Nice. Like I said, this should serve as a lesson to us. And we are here to guarantee that too. In the state of mind where we are obliged to give everything on the pitch, to strip ourselves, we will inevitably miss things, but here it is, doing things together too, it’s important. To give everything on the pitch is truly the Saint-Etienne identity. »
“Of course, we know that we can rely on a few experienced players, notably Yunis, and then, of course, on the values of the club, on the history, on everything that makes this club great . Of course I’m also here to remind you of certain things. It is my duty to tell the new or younger people who are coming and who are also moving up to the professionals, to know where they have been. »
“We all know the past of ASSE and it is heavy”
“We know that in Saint Étienne, there is a lot of pressure, whether we are in league 2 because we absolutely have to move up, or in league 1 because we have to stay there and we have to perform well, because the past Saint Étienne, we all know it and it is heavy. So because there have been a lot of trophies, a lot of epics, so we have to be at a minimum level. And obviously we are also a young team with a lot of arrivals. So we must also take the measure together, continue to know each other, play together, create links, create things to be able to perform well on the pitch and create a real team, a real group. »
“When I say heavy, it’s because there have been trophies, we know that, we were for a long time the most successful team in terms of French championships. We know the epics there have been, the great players who have passed through here, and we also know the fervor there is. So I think that all of this must be more of a motivation. We see that all the new players who arrive here, that’s what they say: “We all know Saint Etienne, we know the supporters, we know the fervor”, and that must really be a motivation and not something that inhibits us. On the contrary, you really have to take it. Like a force, like when we are at Geoffroy Guichard and we have the supporters with us. So you have to take it really positively. »
