“The new authorities have still not honored the traditional subsidy that the State allocated to the Mandingo community. It is truly regrettable!” (Aïdara Diop, SG)

Mandingo September remains a date known to all … A period when the Mandingo community of Mbour organizes the kankourang. A cultural activity of international dimension during which the State of Senegal provided support to the tune of 05 million. Thus, since July 3, the Mandingo community has officially seized the highest authorities regarding the start of Mandingo September, but the new authorities seem to have given no credit to this reminder of the Mandingo community. “Concerning the traditional subsidy from state authorities, we have contacted President Diomaye in writing since July 3, but the authorities have still not reacted. This subsidy of 05 million remains only a drop in the ocean compared to what we are doing… What pleased us with this gesture from Diomaye’s predecessors is that it showed that the State recognizes not only a community that participated in promoting its culture, but also the socio-economic contribution… Whether they do like their predecessors or not, this will not take anything away from the organization of Mandingo September.. “, confided Mamadou Aïdara Diop, the Secretary General of the Mandingo community during his appearance on the Léral program on Mbour fm.

The head of the Mandingo community congratulated the various sites and the parents of the circumcised who were able to respond favorably to make the event a success.

“This is the place to congratulate the managers of the various sites who have mobilized their own resources and those of the families of the circumcised to meet the numerous expenses linked to the management of such an important event on the national cultural agenda.

“We should perhaps regret that an event with such an economic and sociological impact is considered marginal by the Minister in charge of culture and his government,” concluded Aïdara Diop.

It should be noted that this year, the city of Mbour is celebrating the one hundred and twentieth (120th) edition of Mandingo September.
