Nearly three weeks after the disappearance of Mehdi Narjissi on August 7 off the coast of South Africa, the parents of the 17-year-old player and their lawyer, Edouard Martial, gave a press conference relayed by The Midi Dispatchthis Tuesday in Agen. The family, who decided last week to contact the public prosecutor of the Lot-et-Garonne prefecture, where they are from, had not yet spoken since the tragedy.
“We are destroyed, devastated,” confided, after being interviewed by investigators, the parents of this French rugby hopeful, licensed by Stade Toulousain and traveling with the French under-18 team when he disappeared. “We are going to fight for our son, for his memory,” they also insisted. “We want answers and people to blame.”

The player trained in Agen was swept away by strong currents while he was taking part in a recovery session on Dias Beach, near the Cape of Good Hope. “It’s one of the most dangerous beaches in the country,” said Jalil Narjissi. “It’s unimaginable.”
