12 people died in the English Channel on Tuesday September 3 while trying to reach England on a boat.

Twelve people died this Tuesday, September 3 off the coast of Wimereux in an attempt to cross the Channel after their clandestine boat broke up while trying to reach England, according to a provisional report communicated by Gérald Darmanin on X.

Darmanin goes to Pas-de-Calais

Two other people are missing after this shipwreck which also caused “several injured”according to the resigning Minister of the Interior, who indicated that he was going “with elected officials and emergency services” in Pas-de-Calais.

In a statement, the maritime prefecture of the Channel indicated that 65 people had been rescued. The search operations are still ongoing, it added, specifying that a final report would be communicated at the end of the day.
