Double birthday during greetings in Argentan

The mayor congratulates him, “in thirty years, you have experienced so many local upheavals, participated in and fortunately controlled the considerable development that a town of 7,000 inhabitants can experience by tripling its population”.

• Births: total number of births recorded in Argentan: 736 (395 boys, 341 girls). From parents living in Argentan: 199 boys, 166 girls. Outside the commune but whose parents live in Argentan: 18 boys, 17 girls. Total for Argentan: 400.
• Marriages: 124 (94 whose marital home is located in Argentan). Spouses both minors: 8. Adult man, minor woman: 20. Minor man, adult woman: 2. Adult spouses: 94.
• Deaths and transcriptions: 174. Resident in Argentan: 108 (8 under one year old; 2 aged 21 to 39; 18 aged 40 to 64; 49 aged 65 to 80; 31 aged over 80). Children born dead: 16.

Eugène Tabouret, inventor of the water engine, killed in an accident
Mid-January, the Argentanais Eugene Stool, inventor of the water engine disappeared at the age of 79 before his discovery was approved.
Passenger in an automobile, he is victim of an accident of the road in Seine-et-Marne.
At the beginning of December, he told us that checks were being carried out in “state factories” and that he expected a happy conclusion by the beginning of 1975.
A few months earlier, the increase in the price of gasoline led him to bring out his 1938 files showing that it would be possible to run an engine using water.
A representative of the Orne Journal assistant to the experiment then wrote: “The engine turns using a gas mixture obtained from the decomposition of water. Its tests carried out with limited technical means produce only low gas emissions. But, for him, it is only a question of time, at least six months before putting his car on the road to try a more serious experiment which could lead to commercialization.
Taboo, as Eugène's close friends called it, is also the name under which the headlights of his invention are marketed in Italy, Germany and Holland.

It gets stuck
Water from the Orne don't go under the bridge anymore after the floodsat the end of 1974, which caused a pile of rubbish that local residents and walkers would like to see removed. Some Argentanians are upset by this situation.

Concerns at the Mic

The sub-prefect receives union officialswho explain the problems to him by giving him a petition signed by the staff which asks: “retirement at 60 rather than unemployment benefit at 20; increasing purchasing power to boost consumption; the recovery and then redistribution of the profits made by large capitalist companies and trusts.” (Editor's note 2024: the company closed in 2004).
