NFL: A Christmas story by Travis Kelce in a Chiefs victory

Travis Kelce was obviously on Santa's good boy list in 2024.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end hit some high-profile milestones Wednesday in a 29-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This victory allowed the Chiefs to secure the American title with a record of 15-1 this season, in addition to ensuring home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Chiefs have yet to score more than 30 points in a game this season.

Author of 8 receptions for 84 yards, Kelce became the 15th player in NFL history to total 1,000 receptions, in addition to moving into first place in Chiefs history for receiving touchdowns.

In the third quarter, Kelce caught a 19-yard pass to reach the 1,000 NFL reception mark. Kelce is only the third tight end to achieve the feat, after Tony Gonzalez (1,325 receptions) and Jason Witten (1,228 receptions)

A little later in the game, Kelce scored a 12-yard touchdown, his third of the campaign. It was the 77th of his career passing, which allowed him to overtake Gonzalez (76) for first place in Chiefs history.

Mahomes shone in the Chiefs' victory with 29 completions, 320 yards and three touchdown passes. This was his most productive game of the season in terms of yards and touchdowns.

Xavier Worthy was efficient with 8 receptions and 79 yards, in addition to scoring a touchdown. Justin Watson and Kareem Hunt got the other two majors for the Chiefs.

The Steelers' only touchdown was scored by Russell Wilson on the ground. The latter had a fairly difficult game with 19 completed passes, 178 yards and one intercepted pass.

The Chiefs will end their season against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, January 5.

Important victory for the Chiefs

With a stake as important as the first place of the American, Kansas City very quickly showed its colors with touchdowns during its first two offensive sequences.

Mahomes first connected with Worthy for 7 yards to open the scoring, before finding Watson for 11 yards to increase the Chiefs' lead to 13-0.

Wilson finally showed signs of life in the second quarter. A sequence of 11 plays allowed him to reduce the gap with a touchdown on a one-yard run.

The Chiefs, however, dominated the rest of the game with touchdowns from Kelce and Hunt to slip away with an easy victory.

No less than seven of the Steelers' 11 offensive sequences ended with a punt or turnover.
