The young Toulouse third row shone in his first season with the pros. After long weeks of convalescence, he is back on the pitches of Top 14.
He surprised everyone last season. Mathis Castro-Ferreira, a young player trained at Maubourguet (65), exploded in his first season with the pros at Stade Toulousain. While no one really expected him at this level, the 20-year-old player was ticked off on 17 match sheets by the “rouge et noir” staff.

Better than that, he scored no less than nine tries, finishing in second place among Toulouse's top scorers behind Matthis Lebel. An unusual performance for a third line. Asked about this, the young Toulousain did not want to dwell on it, recalling that his role was not really to go and flatten. “These are just stats,” says Castro Ferreira. “That’s not what we look at most in a third line. We look more at offensive and defensive activity, that’s what we’re asked to do. It’s just a personal and collective plus to help the team change matches.”

However, the one who learned his lessons with the young people of Stade Toulousain, whom he joined in 2018, has always had a fairly high return when it comes to carrying out actions. “It’s true that it happened to me quite a lot among the youngsters. As a hopeful I often scored when we were close to the line, remembers the Haut-Pyrénées. Hence the little nickname that Clément Vergé gave me : the cruncher As soon as we were close to the line, I lifted it up and flattened it straight away,” he laughs.
