After the affairs that shook French Rugby this summer, the president of the FFR, Florian Grill, promises zero tolerance in the future.
The game resumes its rights for the XV of France, which will begin its autumn tour this Saturday with a test match against Japan at the Stade de France. These will be the first matches for the Blues since the tour to Argentina which turned into a nightmare at the extra-sporting level.
There was the case of Melvyn Jaminet, author of racist remarks in a video published on social networks, and suspended for 34 weeks. Then there was the Hugo Auradou-Oscar Jégou affair, indicted for violent rape after an alcoholic evening, and whose request to dismiss the case must still be validated by the Argentine courts.
For the FFR and its president, it was necessary to react. “We worked. We have released a new framework for the French teams which is not a control plan, which is a reinforced performance plan,
explains Florian Grill in an interview with Sport365.
Everyone understands very well. It is supported by Fabien Galthié, by all the staff and the players who understood the issue that a healthy lifestyle was part of the performance of a high-level athlete. Things are set up. We said there would be a before and an after. There is a before and an after. And everyone is well aware now that the sanctions regime exists and that no hand will shake. »
Grill thought about resigning
The threat is therefore brandished for the next players who make a mistake. But on a personal level, the most painful moment for Florian Grill was the disappearance at sea of young Mehdi Narjissi during a French U18 team training course in South Africa. «
“Following the disappearance of Mehdi, I asked myself the question of resigning, confides the president of the FFR.
I thought, Jean-Marc Lhermet (vice-president) and Sylvain Deroeux (general secretary), the same. Our responsibility, our duty, was on the contrary to manage with dignity and transparency. We also react as a father, not simply as a president. »
