Tennis player Anna Kalinskaya, in a relationship with Jannik Sinner, victim of a contemptuous and misogynistic remark from her ex, Nick Kyrgios

The US Open ended this Sunday, September 8, 2024, with the victory of the Italian Jannik Sinner, but his victory does not only attract positive attention. On social networks, the Australian Nick Kyrgios has repeatedly attacked his opponent, whom he definitely does not carry in his heart.

Kyrgios had originally made remarks about Sinner’s two positive tests for the anabolic steroid clostebol. However, the world number one was cleared after it was proved that the drug had been found in small quantities in his urine due to a spray used by one of his physios.

Clearly a fan of “trash talk”, a common practice of denigration in the world of sport, Nick Kyrgios is particularly active on X. And, according to a screenshot of tweets now deleted, he attacked Anna Kalinskaya, the world number 15, and girlfriend of the Italian athlete.

Since the young woman dated him before dating the US Open winner, the Australian allowed himself to comment “Second service” under a photo of the couple. An inappropriate and misogynistic way of implying: “I was there before, and you’re taking advantage of my leftovers.”

Taken to task by Internet users, many of whom pointed out the sexist and misogynistic aspect of his tweet, or accused him of jealousy, Nick Kyrgios was quick to respond, saying: “Okay… so I’m the bad guy for saying something about it? I never talked about it. Don’t be offended if people talk about it. Simple,” he said on the platform.

Although he has not commented on the matter since, that did not stop him from using the expression “second service” in response to another tweet referring to “Sinner’s revenge”, before stating cryptically: “Don’t you think it’s funny how quickly we can shock some people, with a few words or an emoji? It’s really too much power.”

To which Internet users reminded him that “the second serve only comes if the first is missed”, while recalling that the Australian athlete had admitted to having assaulted his ex-partner Chiara Passari on January 10, 2021, by pushing her to the ground after a heated argument. And that, even if he had publicly apologized to the young woman, this did not excuse his gesture.
