“My journey will be a little different”
In a relationship since 2023 with music producer Benny Blanco, Selena Gomez has confided in particular about the consequences of her health problems on her life choices. If she plans to “starting a family before the age of 35”she will necessarily have to turn to a surrogate mother or adoption to realize her project. “I never said it, but unfortunately I can’t carry my own children.she reveals. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s life in danger. I had to grieve some time ago.”
Godmother to two of her cousin’s children, Selena Gomez has not, however, given up on her dream of starting a family, whether through adoption or using a surrogate mother. “A blessing” for people in his condition, the star acknowledges. “It made me very grateful for the other options that are available to people who are dying to be mothers. I’m one of those people. I’m excited to see what that journey will be like, but it will be a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It will be mine. It will be my baby.”
“I am not a victim”
This is not the first time that Selena Gomez has publicly discussed her health issues. In an interview with Billboard In 2015, she announced that she had undergone chemotherapy to treat lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that causes debilitating inflammation of the organs. In 2017, she informed her fans via her Instagram account that she had received a kidney transplant, donated by her longtime friend, American actress Francia Raísa.
Selena Gomez has also struggled with mental health issues, which she openly discusses in the documentary. My Mind & Mereleased in 2022 on AppleTV+. Frightened at the time by the repercussions it could have on her life, the artist explains that she asked Apple to cancel its online release, without success. “When the movie came out, I didn’t watch anything for a few days and was afraid to leave the house.” Then, when she realized that her own story could help others facing the same challenges, she “started to accept it”. “And I felt that was a very good thing.”
Today “properly medicated” To prevent depression from reappearing, Selena Gomez wants to point out that her condition was due to a “chemical imbalance” related to his lupus. “People used to call me a victim. It frustrates me because being vulnerable is actually one of the strongest things you can do. That narrative is not going to take over my life. I’m grateful every day. And I have my days like everyone else, but I’m not a victim. I’ve just survived a lot of things. There’s not a part of me that wants anyone to feel sorry for me.”
