Traffic, security perimeters… What you need to know before the Paris 2024 Paralympic Marathon

Before the Paris Paralympic Games come to an end, the paramarathon event is expected this Sunday, September 8. Located between Seine-Saint-Denis and Paris, the event will be free and accessible to all.

The capital is, however, preparing to experience disruptions during the day and traffic restrictions are to be expected.

Kick-off at 8am in La Courneuve

The Paralympic marathon event will be launched in the heart of Georges-Valbon Park in La Courneuve. Para-athletes, women and men of all categories, will set off on a 42.195 km course.

They will pass through Le Bourget, Drancy, Bobigny and Pantin, before going up to Saint-Denis, then going back down towards the north-east of Paris.

In the capital, the route will cross the 19th, 10th and 11th arrondissements to the Champs-Elysées to end on the Esplanade des Invalides between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Key points for attending the race

There will be several interesting places to enjoy the event as a spectator, starting with the Georges-Valbon park in La Courneuve, the starting point of the race, which will be accessible all day.

The Jemmapes quays will also be a good meeting point in the 10th arrondissement from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Otherwise, meet at Place de la République between 9:05 a.m. and 11:20 a.m., on the Grands Boulevards between 9:10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. or on the Champs-Elysées between 9:30 a.m. and 11:50 a.m.

Traffic restrictions

A large security perimeter will be set up around the course. Motorized access will also be prohibited around the Olympic village, the Stade de France or the Champs-Elysées a few hours before the start of the events, between 3 and 5 a.m., until 2 p.m.

The exits at the Porte d’Aubervilliers will also be closed between 3 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the ring road for cars.

Only local residents or authorized persons will be able to access this area after receiving authorization from the police.

For pedestrians and cyclists, no restrictions are expected. Crossing points will be set up throughout the route.

The device will be gradually lifted as the athletes pass through.

Metro and tram stations closed

During this day, the use of public transport is strongly recommended. However, several stations will be closed.

The Champs-Elysées-Clémenceau, Concorde and Tuileries stops on Line 1, the Concorde stop on Line 12 and the Champs-Elysées-Clémenceau stop on Line 13 will be closed throughout the day.

On the tramway side, traffic will be interrupted from 5:40 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. between Bobigny-Pablo Picasso and Saint-Denis for the T1. The Porte d’Issy and Porte de Versailles stops will not be served all day on the T2, and the Colette Bessin stop will not be served for the T3b. Finally, traffic will be interrupted between Saint-Denis-Porte de Paris and Saint-Denis from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the T8.
