C’is a day that will have marked the history of French disabled sport during these Paralympic Games. It is Wednesday, September 4, in Clichy-sous-Bois. It is in this city northeast of Paris that the paracycling road events are held. That day, the time trial events for the different disability categories take place.

At the end of these events, the results are clear: in a few hours, this French paracycling team collected eleven medals, including four gold. A historic day for French disabled sport, but particularly for this discipline. Including the events on the track of the national velodrome in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, the French paracyclists rose to 28 podium finishes, including 10 times on the highest step. No other sport has brought as many medals to the French counter. This was already the case in Tokyo in 2021, with 17 medals including five titles.

Means for better material

To explain these successes, several factors are put forward, but the first one cited by the main protagonists is often the same: the means put in place have borne fruit. Dorian Foulon, one of the veterans of this French team and double medalist in these Games, notes: “I have been in the French team since 2016 and when I see the evolution, I find it quite crazy, it has nothing to do with it. A lot of things and aid have been put in place.”
