Alain Duhamel announces his “last” return to BFMTV after 60 years of career

The 84-year-old political journalist will retire at the end of the season he began this Monday, September 2 on BFMTV.

Alain Duhamel, 84, a political journalist whose voice and face have accompanied the public for over 50 years, announced that he was making his “last” return to media school this Monday, September 2, on BFMTV, where he works.

“It’s the last (back to school) school,” assured the columnist. “I started in 1965, I had to divorce either BFMTV or my wife.”

“In 1965, for my first visible achievement, I wrote a series of two articles in two consecutive days in Le Monde on the sociology of General De Gaulle’s electorates,” he recalled on our set.

“Which caused me my first problem with the Minister of Information at the time, Alain Peyrefitte, who was not happy at all because, in essence, I had written that General De Gaulle represented the people but that the popular classes did not vote for him.”

Over 50 years of television

He dates his debut “on TV, with a show, in 1970 when I was 30 years old”. BFMTV has also unearthed images of a televised intervention in 1967. “It was for the show ‘Lectures pour tous’, I had written with Jacques Fauvet, at the time editor-in-chief of Le Monde, a history of the Communist Party in two volumes”. And for the needs of a debate in Readings for allJacques Fauvet “preferred” that it be the young Alain Duhamel who takes charge of it.
