After two months of detention for insults via a computer system and for comments deemed contrary to good morals, the former president of the parliamentary group of the “Benno Bokk Yakaar” coalition, Moustapha Diakhaté, was released.
So, he was quick to react on the RFM airwaves. The opponent, known for his firm stances against the country’s new authorities, notably the Prime Minister and the leader of Pastef, affirmed that he did not intend to renounce his convictions.
“I came out in excellent health, as before my incarceration. I remain more determined than ever to defend pluralism and freedom of expression, which are fundamental principles for me. My commitment to democracy and the protection of the rights of the Senegalese remains intact”said Moustapha Diakhaté.
For the former parliamentarian, Rebeuss prison was a “real university”. “A stay at Rebeuss, even if you have to go there at your own expense, is an experience worth living. I learned a lot there,” he added.
