CarPlay 2 misses the 2024 deadline, Apple tries to reassure

Presented in 2022, CarPlay 2 has once again missed the deadline initially planned for its launch. Announced for the end of 2024, the new generation of the on-board system for cars is still awaited in 2025. As a reminder, it promises to take control of all the dashboard screens and to offer reinforced integration between the system of Apple and that of the car. Apple even discreetly removed the promise of a 2024 launch from its dedicated site, suggesting that the project could have been abandoned, as noted by MacRumors.

To try to reassure and quell the rumor, a spokesperson for the Cupertino company sent a press release to the specialized site, in which the company claims to continue collaborating with several car manufacturers: “The new generation of CarPlay is based based on years of success and knowledge gained with CarPlay, delivering the best of Apple and the automaker in a deeply integrated and customizable experience. We continue to work closely with several automakers, allowing them to showcase their unique brand and visual design philosophies in the next generation of CarPlay. Each car brand will share more details as they approach the announcement of their models that will support the next generation of CarPlay,” explains the firm.

For the moment, only the Aston Martin and Porsche brands have revealed, in December 2023, how they plan to implement the system in their vehicles.
