Les Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie (CMN) is starting the year with a good omen. After the closing of a major contract which mobilized the workforce for several years, another, sign the November 17, 2023 with the General Directorate of Armaments, will begin.

This is the first of two offshore patrol vessels built in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin (Manche) as part of the program comprising 7 units, intended for the French Navy for an amount of 900 million euros.

300,000 hours of work per vessel

Cutting of the first sheet is planned for next week.

These 92-meter vessels aim, ultimately, to replace the high seas patrol vessels (PHM) based in and , as well as those of public service, such as the Pluvier in Cherbourg. For a total of 300,000 hours of work each.

Naval Group is also involved in this program, being at the origin of the sketch studies and detailed design, then monitoring the realization and development, and the supply of combat direction systems.

The second and sixth series will be built, then delivered in 2028 and 2030, by CMN. As for the others, they will be in charge of the Piriou and Socarenam shipyards.
