The US president-elect promises a hundred decrees on his first day at the White House, Monday.
Speaking to supporters at a “MAGA Victory Rally” in Washington DC the day before his inauguration, Donald Trump pledged to act with “historical speed” to solve what he considers to be major problems in the United States.
After making it one of his main campaign axes, the next American president plans in particular mass deportations of illegal immigrants.
“By sundown on Monday, the invasion of our borders will have stopped. And all the illegal immigrants will, one way or another, be on their way home.”he declared in front of his supporters on Sunday.
However, some experts say that deporting millions of undocumented migrants would face considerable logistical and legal hurdles and the costs could run into hundreds of billions of dollars.
TikTok suspended then restored this weekend
Donald Trump also announced an executive order to delay the ban on TikTok to give the Chinese company time to sell its American subsidiary.
The popular video streaming app was taken down late Saturday after the Supreme Court upheld its ban on national security grounds.
But the network was reinstated a few hours later after the announcement of Donald Trump’s decree.
-“Thank you for your patience and support. Thanks to President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the United States!”we can read in a company announcement.
Donald Trump had already declared that he had “a weakness for TikTok”saying his account on the app helped him tap into a younger voter base to win the 2024 election.
More the next American president is himself at the origin of the efforts to ban the application for reasons of national security.
In 2020, near the end of his first presidency, he attempted to ban TikTok with an executive order and pushed for the app to be bought by Microsoft. The Chinese company reacted by filing a legal appeal against this decision.
Gaza ceasefire agreement
Donald Trump also attacked outgoing President Joe Biden, calling his tenure“failed administration” and promising to “end the reign of a failed and corrupt political establishment”.
He was also credited for the Gaza ceasefire agreement that took effect Sunday morning and resulted in the release of the first hostages held by Hamas.
The United States mediated the ceasefire negotiations alongside Qatar and Egypt, and representatives of Joe Biden and Donald Trump participated.
Donald Trump’s inauguration will take place in Washington on Monday afternoon.
The decision was made earlier this week to move the event inside the Capitol due to forecasted freezing temperatures in the city.
