Belgian writer Pierre Mertens died on Sunday at the age of 85, several media reported. The information was notably confirmed by the family to RTBF.
Pierre Mertens was a writer, doctor of law, specialist in international law, director of the Center for Sociology of Literature at the Free University of Brussels and literary critic at the newspaper Le Soir.
Born in Boitsfort on October 9, 1939, the writer, elected to the Royal Academy of French Language and Literature, was particularly known for the novels “Les Éblouissements” (1987) and “Une peace royale” (1995).
