937 more inhabitants arrived in the Nantes vineyard (in Loire-Atlantique) between 2021 and 2022.
This is what emerges from the latest demographic figures from INSEE published at the end of the year. The territory now counts officially 153,776 inhabitantsan increase of 0.6% in one year. A progression which tends to slow down if we compare to 2021 (+ 1,037 inhabitants) and to the period 2015-2020 (1,940 additional inhabitants on average per year).
The difficulty finding accommodation in the Vineyard is one of the main reasons, as is the drop in the number of births observed in the Loire-Atlantique department (1,146 fewer babies between 2022 and 2023).
Trajectory similar to the Loire-Atlantique
Over the period 2016-2022, the Vineyard sees its population increase by 1.1% on average each year. Exactly like Loire-Atlantique which now has 1.47 million inhabitants, making “44” the fourth department with the strongest growth in France, and the first in the Pays de la Loire ahead of Vendée.
The region, with its now 3.87 million inhabitants, is still as popular and displays a high population growth (0.7% per year between 2016 and 2022), above the national average (+ 0.4%).
All municipalities have gained residents over the last six years
Looking more closely at the Muscadet country, we notice that all the communes have gained inhabitants over the last six years. Whether the smallest (like La Remaudière, La Boissière-du-Doré and La Regrippière), the medium or the largest.
The greatest progress is recorded in Saint-Julien-de-Concelles (1.9% per year, 880 more inhabitants), ahead of Gorges which passes the symbolic bar of 5,000 inhabitants (+ 1.8% per year) and Vertou (+ 1, 6% per year).
Only the municipal population is counted
Note that the figures taken into account are those of the municipal population. The population counted separately is not counted, hence a difference: these are people whose usual residence is in another municipality but who have maintained a residence on the territory of the municipality such as students, soldiers …
Vertou the most populated ahead of Basse-Goulaine and Vallet
If the city on the outskirts of Nantes is by far the most populous in the region with 26,048 inhabitants, it is experiencing a slight demographic slowdown, welcoming “only” 46 additional souls between 2021 and 2022.
The podium is completed of Basse-Goulaine (9,617 inhabitants) and Vallet (9,524 inhabitants), which maintain their growth at more than 1% per year.
Clisson? For the second consecutive year, it is losing inhabitants (-6 in 2022 and -42 in 2021) but over the last six years, its annual growth close to that of the Vignoble (+ 0.95%).
