Beware of icy conditions in eastern France this Wednesday, January 15 morning. An episode of freezing drizzle affects the north-east of the country, causing several accidents on the A4 motorway in particular.

At least four accidents involving light vehicles were recorded this Wednesday shortly before 9 a.m., between kilometer 457 near Mommenheim and kilometer 433, near Danne-et-Quatre-Vents, on the edge of the Moselle.

One of these accidents caused a brief shutdown of the A4 towards Paris, in the Brumath sector, between approximately 8:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. Three cars then obstructed all traffic lanes, but the latter was quickly restored.

In addition to the A4, the A35 motorway is also affected by this freezing rain. In the Strasbourg-Colmar direction, near Duppigheim, the motorway is cut due to “several accidents involving numerous vehicles and a heavy goods vehicle”.

Motorists urged to stop at rest areas

The icy patches were caused by light rain falling on frozen ground, with temperatures dropping to almost -10°C overnight locally.

As the Sanef website indicates, preventive salting operations are also underway on the axis linking Strasbourg to Paris.

Motorists are invited to stop at a rest area, according to journalists from the Radio autoroutes Sanef 107.7 station. Traffic is also difficult on the secondary network.
