Fatal penalties at FCSM
With a squad that has been largely overhauled and made up of many young players, the men of Karim MOKEDDEM faced a much more experienced opponent. However, it was the visitors who struck first: in the 11th minute, Thomas FONTAINE opens the scoring with a superb left-footed shot.
The Guingampais, taken by surprise, reacted quickly but came up against a Mathieu PATOUILLET in great form, multiplying the decisive saves. The Guingampais still equalized in the 38th minute. Against all expectations, the “Yellow and Blue” regained the advantage just before the break: Armand GNANDUILLET perfectly concludes a counter-attack by adjusting the Guingamp goalkeeper with a precise flat foot.
Returning from the locker room, Guingamp intensified its attacks and managed to equalize in the 59th minute. The Sochaliens, heroic in defense, resisted until the final whistle.
It was ultimately during the penalty shootout that the fate of the match was decided. In an endless series, the FC Sochaux-Montbéliard lost with a score of 9 shots on goal to 8, putting an end to his adventure in the Coupe de France.
The Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Football League would like to congratulate FC Sochaux-Montbéliard for its remarkable career. For the second year in a row, the club proudly represented our Region by reaching the round of 16.
