Access for young graduates to legal professions: the first LMD FSJP UCAD class relaunches the debate

The Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences of the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar, hosted on Saturday January 11 the ceremony celebrating the 10th anniversary of the first LMD FSJP UCAD promotion called “promo Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé” named after the inspector general of State, also former Minister of the Interior. Placed under the theme “Challenges and opportunities for the access of young graduates to legal professions”, this meeting is also a privileged moment for former residents of this faculty to relaunch the debate on the nagging question which happens to be the employability of young graduates in legal professions.

“Challenges and opportunities for young graduates’ access to legal professions. » This is the theme dedicated to the official ceremony celebrating the 10th anniversary of the first LMD promotion of the FSJP of the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar, held Saturday January 11, 2025.

Indeed, aware of the difficulty for young law graduates to enter the job market, the LMD FSJP-UCAD class Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé tried to raise the debate in some way to attract the attention of the authorities to a situation that requires a solution.

However, despite the reforms undertaken by the State of Senegal in the justice sector, the proposals of which were made in the direction of the recruitment of magistrates, lawyers, bailiffs and clerks, these former partners of the FSJP-UCAD find this insufficient supply.

According to its president, Babacar Sy Diagne, “today, when you go to countries like , Ivory Coast, there is what we call legal advice which is an approved profession. Today, nothing prevents Senegal from creating this profession,” he stressed.

This ceremony was also a sign of accountability for the Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé class to pay tribute to their teachers for having contributed a lot to their training but also to the faculty. “Through this act, the class is trying to create a dynamic of accountability at the law faculty, a return to the source and in a way to pay tribute to the professors who have given them a lot,” noted Mr. Diagne.

In this regard, Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé, sponsor of the class, urged young people to draw inspiration from their elders, showing respect to those who instill knowledge in them, namely the teachers.
