Between -7 to -3°C from the north-east to the south-west, up to -10°C in Auvergne and barely more than 1°C in the north-west… No doubt, given the Weather forecasts France for Monday January 13, 2025, winter is here, with bitter cold and widespread frosts throughout the country.
More than one thirty departments are moreover placed on “very cold” alert for the day Monday. An alert level that Météo France triggered for the first time in winter 2024-2025 on Saturday, to characterize the day of Sunday.
The orange “flood” alert only concerns Aisne and Oise on Monday.
34 departments on yellow “severe cold” vigilance
At the origin of these low temperatures, the meteorologist Guillaume Séchet gave actu.fr two explanations, at the end of the week: the installation of an anticyclone in continental Europe (and in France) on Saturday, as well as a cold, dry air coming from Germany and Scandinavia, which grows in particular in the north-east of France.
Also, in view of the weather conditions, Météo France has chosen to place 34 departments on yellow alert for “very cold”, for the day of Monday. They are located across the entire northeastern quarter, in the center and part of the west of France:
- Ardennes (08)

Minimum temperatures are very cold with widespread frosts across the country. […] In the afternoon the weather remains cold with 0 to 5 degrees in general.
“There is also no question of a cold snapbut it is very wintery weather,” explains Guillaume Séchet, for whom it should be coldest “between Sunday and Tuesday, before a very slow rise in temperatures.”
Beware of avalanches in the Alps and Pyrenees
Moreover, nine departments are placed on yellow vigilance for avalanche risks.
These are the departments located in the Alps (Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Isère, Hautes-Alpes) and on the arc of the Pyrenees (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées, Haute-Garonne, Ariège, Pyrénées-Orientales). Andorra is also included in this list.
