The news of his death spread quickly on Sunday morning and caused shock waves in the Tarn amateur football community. Licensed to the US Cadalen club for ten years, this father of three children played in the senior team and coached the youngsters. He was also an U13 educator at US Albi.
“We think first of his wife and his daughters”, reacted the president of US Cadalen, Frédéric Barthe, upset by this sudden disappearance, “in circumstances which are even more dramatic”. “We are all in shock. He is someone who was important to us, very involved and who was always helpful.”
A minute of silence on the pitch
The US Albi club communicated on social networks to announce the death of its educator. “Passionate, committed and deeply human, Steven embodied the values of our club. He left his mark not only on his players, but also on all those who crossed his path, with his smile, his dedication and his love for football.”
“Our most sincere thoughts go to his family, his loved ones, as well as to all those who had the chance to share moments by his side,” continues the US Albi press release.
A minute of silence will be observed this Sunday before the kick-off of all US Albi matches. Other sports clubs in the department such as the AMTF, the Saint-Juéry Olympique, the US Cordes Valver and the Sporting Club Albigeois have shown their support for the club, the family of Steven Letombe and his loved ones.
