What happened this week at the Longjumeau hospital center (Essonne)? A 20-year-old young woman, admitted to the emergency room, died there after waiting for several hours, report our colleagues from Parisian. Suffering from a genetic disease, she came accompanied by her loved ones for hyperthermia in the morning.
“No one understands what could have happened”
After an initial examination, she was placed in a box. It was only around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, after his scan, that caregivers noticed the deterioration of his condition. Victim of cardiac arrest, the young woman could not be resuscitated and she was pronounced dead around 7:30 p.m.
“The teams were traumatized. Nobody understands what could have happened. It’s terrible,” confides Cédric Lussiez, director of GHNE (North Essonne Hospital Group). To BFMTV, the man spoke of a “serious adverse event, in this case extremely serious”, which will be the subject of investigations within the hospital. An autopsy of the body was scheduled for Thursday to determine the exact causes of death.
Overwhelmed caregivers
In the columns of Parisiancertain staff members point out dysfunctions within the establishment. They talk about bed closures, overwhelmed emergency rooms and patients waiting in corridors or on stretchers.
-Cédric Lussiez recalls that the white plan had just been activated in Longjumeau, due to a peak in activity linked to seasonal flu. On Wednesday, the emergency room welcomed around a hundred people, compared to an average of 80 in normal times. “But this does not make it possible to make a link with the death of the patient,” assures the director at the microphone of BFMTV.
