In an administrative note consulted by Médias24, the president of the council of the municipality of Casablanca, Nabila Rmiliasked the presidents of the district councils under the municipality to refrain from granting or renewing individual authorizations relating to the surveillance of cars, motorcycles and vehicles.
This decision comes into force from the date of signing the note, in accordance with the decisions delegating certain powers of the president of the council of the municipality of Casablanca, dated December 31, 2024.
The cessation of the activities of car guards in Casablanca paves the way for the installation of parking meters, offering more modern and structured management of parking in the city.
In Casablanca, it is the local development company The Bathroom House who is in charge of managing parking meters. Mainly concentrated in the blue zone at the city center (districts surrounded by the ring road; Resistance; Zerktouni; FAR; Anfa) and its main urban extensions (Maârif; Hôpitaux; Belvédère; Roches-Noires; Médina; Burgundy), these 831 devices managing 18,000 places bring to the city the modest sum of 7 million of DH per year.
According to an informed source, Mohamed Midia was, upon his arrival, surprised by the relatively low income generated by Casa Baia.
Casa Baia is facing, according to her, a significant shortfall, in particular because of unauthorized guards, the granting of guarding authorizations by elected officials for electoral purposes, the resale of tickets by guards, etc.
To increase municipal revenues, Casa Baia is counting on the extension of blue zones (areas covered by parking meters), in accordance with the parking master plan 2017-2023, finalized in August 2016 and adopted by the Casablanca municipal council during the February 2017 session, which anticipated over the period, alongside the development of urban public transport, an increase in the supply of regulated parking, through the installation of parking meters along the corniche, throughout the hospital district and around Casanearshore Park; which should triple or even quadruple royalties.
