ADB grants loan of 80.16 million euros for road infrastructure

The African Development Bank (AfDB) announced the allocation of a loan of 80.16 million euros to Tunisia. This funding is intended for the third phase of the Road Infrastructure Modernization Program. This information was relayed Monday by the financial institution on its official website, according to our colleagues from Anadolu.

The project received approval from the Board of Directors on December 9. It benefits from co-financing from the ADB to the tune of 80.16 million euros, covering 92.98% of the total costs, while the Tunisian government contributes 6.05 million euros.

The governorates of Kef, Kasserine, Sousse, Sfax, Kairouan, Siliana and Gafsa are affected by this project. These regions suffer from transport constraints due to road degradation. In total, the project aims to strengthen 188.9 kilometers of classified roads.

The project, planned for 2025 to 2030, should also include the modernization of the sections that connect the border regions of Tunisia to Algeria. As mentioned on the website of our colleagues from Anadolu, this initiative is part of the ADB’s continued support for the modernization of Tunisian infrastructure. To date, nearly 4,000 kilometers of roads and 104 kilometers of highways have been renovated in collaboration with the bank.
