The reaction of the drivers at the finish

Sébastien Loeb – 7th of the stage

“It was complicated for us. She started well. Then we had fan problems which cause the engine to heat up. We found ourselves broken down. It went 5 km, it stopped… In the end we limit the damage. We resume 14 minutes… The car is designed to run with fans. We have three. If we lose one, we drive with reduced power, if we lose two, it stops moving at all and we have to stop. We have to find the solution, that’s for sure.… When we dragged ourselves to the first refueling it was to give up there. For 50 km we stopped at each dune to try to gain momentum to climb the next dune. And since it’s electronic, we can’t do anything. Thanks to Pablo (Moreno) and luck, it worked again.”

Carlos Sainz – 35th of the stage

“After two promising days, I rolled over which caused us to lose a lot of time. I tried to find the solution to go back but we had increasingly serious technical problems. It was impossible to do better than what we did there. We know that anything can happen on the Dakar but that’s not the way we wanted to move forward… We will continue to attack and we will see what we can do. The mechanics have to look at the car but for me we are able to continue”.

Nasser Al-Attiyah – 3rd of the stage 48hr time

It was very hard at times… we had a puncture 50 km from the finish. Eventually I’m pretty happy to be at the finish and to see that we didn’t have any big problems.
