Mama Sougoufara is appointed to the position of Director General of Chemical Industries of Senegal (Ics) as of January 1, 2025.
He replaces the “irremovable” Alassane Diallo who had been in office since…2005. “This appointment marks an important step in the continuity and strategic development of the company,” says an internal source. Mr. Sougoufara, who until then held the position of Deputy Director General of Ics, brings with him extensive experience and in-depth knowledge. He is described internally as a man capable of “transforming challenges into opportunities”. With a career spanning several years, wherever he has worked, “he has demonstrated exemplary leadership, an ability to innovate and transform challenges into opportunities,” informs our source. The new Dg of Ics is an engineer in industrial process engineering from the National Institute of Applied Sciences (Insa) in Toulouse (France).
He also holds a Master’s degree in Urban Management and Infrastructure, obtained at the Ecole Supérieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (Essec Business School, Paris) and a Master’s degree in urban planning. Mama Sougoufara began her career within the Veolia Group in the water, sanitation and waste management sector. Then, from 2000 to 2008, he was a consultant and associate director within the Arthur Andersen/BearingPoint firms, in Paris, for the industrial and technology sectors.
Before returning to Senegal in June 2024, he previously worked within the French group Alstom for 16 years, a company he joined in 2008. Mr. Sougoufara held various management positions within this multinational company specializing in the transport sector. He worked in rolling stock engineering departments and served at several global locations, such as La Rochelle and Reichshoffen in Strasbourg, France (where the trainsets for the Dakar Regional Express Train were manufactured), Savigliano in Italy, Lapa in Brazil and TrTrans JV in Russia. Between 2018 and 2020, he was vice president in charge of Turnkey and infrastructure for Alstom Africa, Middle East and Central Asia (Ameca).
The new boss of Ics also served as general manager of Alstom for the Menat region (Middle East, North Africa, Central Africa and Turkey). He has played an important role in the execution and delivery of numerous transportation projects in the Middle East, such as Doha Tram, Dubai Expolink Metro and Riyadh Metro.
