Barthélémy Dias, expressed this Tuesday during a press briefing strong criticism of the Senegalese justice system, which he accuses of being “tamed”. According to him, part of the judiciary submitted to orders.

“I would only like to say to the UMS (the Union of Magistrates of Senegal) that tomorrow someone should not come and tell us that you are a constituted body, that you have immunity, that you “You are protected and this and that. You are Senegalese like everyone else,” said Mr. Dias.

He also issued a warning to the Union of Magistrates of Senegal (UMS), saying its members are not above the law.
”you have to be accountable like everyone else,” he threatened.

The dismissed mayor denounced a justice system which, according to him, “refuses to speak the law in the name of the Senegalese people”. He held her partly responsible for political tensions and deadly violence, particularly during the last political change, which left more than 80 dead. “A justice system that cannot be assumed, which is at the origin of numerous situations leading to tragic riots, can no longer be tolerated,” insisted Barthélémy Dias.

In his face to face with journalists, Mr. Dias also denounced the “robbery” of his town hall.
