The Saint-Louis High Court is expected to deliver its verdict this Monday, January 6 in the case of Samm Sa Kaddu’s 80 bodyguards. The latter were arrested following clashes in the old town during the campaign for the last legislative elections. Unless dismissed, the accused should be decided on their fate today.

Four charges weigh against the defendants: violent robbery, assault, illegal carrying of weapons and violation of the orders of October 22 issued by the Minister of the Interior.

During the special hearing held on Monday, December 2, the prosecutor requested prison sentences ranging from 2 to 5 years for some of the accused. For others, the public prosecutor had requested release.

This affair, which has attracted a lot of attention, could mark a turning point in the management of political violence in the region. The verdict expected this Monday will provide answers on the responsibility of the accused in the tumultuous events of the legislative campaign.
