A final tribute. Jimmy Carter’s funeral, scheduled to last six days, began Saturday, Jan. 4, in Americus, Ga., at the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, where current and former Secret Service agents who protected the late centenarian who died Dec. 29 loaded his remains into a black hearse. The latter then crossed the state to the applause of Americans towards Plains, the former president’s hometown, where a solemn tribute was paid to him in front of the family farm.
Jimmy Carter’s remains were then taken to the Georgia Capitol, where a moment of silence was observed in tribute to the former Senator, then to the Carter Presidential Center, which includes the presidential library and the Carter Center. Descendants and loved ones of Jimmy Carter gathered there Saturday afternoon to pay a final tribute to this man of commitment. His grandson Jason Carter paid tribute to the memory of his grandfather, but also thanked the people who worked with him to “transmit his message of service and help to others,” reports CBS News.
