A photo of Adolf Hitler with his autograph for 16,300 francs, starting bid, what do you think? Well, too late. The ephemeral offer published on Ricardo’s website has been withdrawn. It was possible for a few hours to acquire the historic photo for a direct purchase price of 19,300 francs, for “this unique piece for collectors, new, in its original packaging and with a certificate of authenticity dated March 2024,” the announcement said.

When Ricardo officials learned of the offer, it was withdrawn without notice. “A prohibited item was posted online on Ricardo before it could be recognized and removed by our security systems,” says the online sales company, which adds that it condemns “all forms of racism and does not tolerate under any circumstances offers that are racist or linked to National Socialist ideas or propaganda.” The user who posted the offer will be notified by the company and “if this happens again, they will be kicked out and blocked.”

Ricardo indicates that nearly 20,000 offers are posted online every day and even more during the holiday season. Some items escape automatic checks. Ricardo indicates that items which have the mention of Adolf Hitler in their description are not systematically prohibited for sale: historical objects such as coins or stamps without racist content are likely to be offered on the site.
