On March 23, 2019, the town of Baghouz, located on the eastern border of Syria, was retaken from the hands of the Islamic State (IS) group, which thus lost its last territorial stronghold in the Middle East. The commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), largely responsible for the liberation of the city, then announced “the total elimination of the so-called caliphate and the 100% territorial defeat of ISIS”.

This defeat does not, however, mark the eradication of the terrorist group, which continues to carry out attacks around the world while maintaining a certain control over certain territories in Africa. The attack in New , during which the assailant killed fourteen people with a ramming car and who apparently acted alone, according to the latest information from the investigation, is a reminder once again that the group continues to exercise its influence, in particular to perpetrate international attacks. The point in a few questions on the Islamic State.
