The day after his victory in the 20 km freestyle of the Tour de Ski, Harald Amundsen won the 15 km classic pursuit on Wednesday in Dobbiaco. His Norwegian compatriot Johannes Klaebo remains leader.
Starting with a 21” margin on his first pursuer, Amundsen secured the essential by crossing the line in front of the Swede Edvin Anger (+2”). Third at 5”, Klaebo made up part of the delay conceded the day before to consolidate his place as leader of the Tour de Ski. He now has a lead of 36” over Anger and 57” over Amundsen after four of the seven stages.
In the Swiss camp, the best performance came from Beda Klee (30th, +2’13). Fifth in the general ranking last year, Klee is not in the best shape following a Covid contracted before Christmas. Cyril Fähndrich took 34th place (+2’19).
Diggins loses his mind
Among the women, Astrid Slind also followed up after her victory on Tuesday, ahead of her compatriot Therese Johaug by a hair. Sixth more than two minutes behind, the American Jessie Diggins lost first place in the general classification, now occupied by Slind.
Best Swiss, Marina Kälin ranked 22nd in this pursuit (+3’50). A good result for the cross-country skier from the Engadine after her 17th place obtained the day before. Nadine Fähndrich, 28th, lost more than five minutes and saw her dream of finishing in the top 10 of the Tour de Ski slip away once again.
After a day’s break, the Tour will resume on Friday in Val di Fiemme. A classic sprint, a skiathlon and a free mass start are still on the program.
