Emmanuel Macron will send his wishes for 2025 to the French this Tuesday. A traditional exercise for the Head of State, but which will be special this year due to the absence of a majority in the National Assembly.
What will Emmanuel Macron say during the wishes he will make to the French this Tuesday, December 31? If his entourage recalls that it is “a ritual and traditional exercise”, it is the first time that the Head of State will take part in this exercise without a majority in the National Assembly. According to the president's entourage, he will take stock of 2024 as lucidly and humbly as possible.
During his speech, Emmanuel Macron will discuss the great successes and French pride. We can imagine that the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral and the organization of the Olympic Games will then be discussed.
A posture “more of a guarantor than a governor”
But the President of the Republic will also discuss the difficulties encountered this year, both in terms of geopolitics and domestic policy. The year was notably marked by the dissolution and the political instability that followed. 2024 thus saw the succession of four Prime Ministers (Élisabeth Borne, Gabriel Attal, Michel Barnier then François Bayrou) and an anticipated legislative period which saw the National Assembly be divided into three blocks.
Emmanuel Macron: one crisis too many?
For the first time, the tenant of the Élysée ends a calendar year, without a majority in the National Assembly. According to the head of state's entourage, he will adopt a posture “more of a guarantor than a governor.”
Last year, Emmanuel Macron took on “unpopular (…) reforms like those of pensions.” The President of the Republic was particularly keen to “thank the Prime Minister and her government.” At the time, Élisabeth Borne held this position before submitting her resignation eight days later to Emmanuel Macron.
